A German Requiem, composed between 1865 and 1868.
Based on the following scriptures:
1. Selig sind, die da Leid tragen
Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn for their own sins for they shall be comforted.
2. Denn alles Fleisch, es ist wie Gras
1 Peter 1:24 All flesh is like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall.
3. Herr, lehre doch mich
Psalm 39:4–7 Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. 5 You have made my days a mere handbreath; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. 6 Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. 7 But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you. Lord, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.
4. Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen
Psalm 84:1, 2, 4 How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! 2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courtyards of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are forever praising you.
5. Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit
John 16:22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
6. Denn wir haben hie keine bleibende Statt
Hebrews 13:14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.
7. Selig sind die Toten
Revelation 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on."; "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labors, for the things they did go right with them."
Johannes Brahms, 1833-1897: German composer, pianist and conductor.
Percy Faith (April 7, 1908 – February 9, 1976)
Canadian bandleader, orchestrator, composer and conductor.
Theme from A Summer Place was recorded as an instrumental for a 1959 film A Summer Place. The song was a number one hit for nine weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1960.
Composed by Giachino Rossini (1792–1868), the greatest Italian composer of his time.
This opera depicts the story of Switzerland's legendary founding fathers and a courageous 13th century folk hero, Wilhelm Tell, who symbolized the struggle for political and individual freedom. According to legend, Tell was forced to shoot an apple from his son's head after refusing to pay homage to a Hapsburg liege. His courage and famed marksmanship launched an uprising that brought the Swiss independence from the Hapsburg dynasty.
