Lyrics:
Ah! se una volta sola
rivederlo potessi, anzi che all´ara
altra sposa ei guidasse!
Vana speranza!
L´anello mio... l´anello...
Ei me l´ha tolto.
Ma non puè rapirmi l´immagin sua...
Sculta ella è qui, nem petto.
Né te, d´eterno affetto
tenero pegno, o fior, ancor ti bacio
Ancor ti bacio
Ancor ti bacio, ma... inaritido sei.
Ah! non credea mirarti
Sì presto estinto, o fiore;
Passasti al par d'amore,
Che un giorno solo,
Che un giorno sol durò,
Che un giorno solo ah sol durò
Passasti al par d'amore.
Che un giorno,
Che un giorno sol durò.
Potria novel vigore
Il pianto, pianto mio recarti,
Ma ravvivar l'amore
Il pianto mio ah, no, no, non può.
Ah! non credea
Ah! non credea
Al par d'amor, al par d'amor
Che un giorno sol durò,
Che un giorno sol durò.
Al par d', al par d'amor
Ah si, ah d'amor
Translation:
Oh if I could only see him once more
Before he leads another to the altar
Vain hope! I can hear the church bell
He is on his way to church
Alas, I have lost him
Yet... I have done nothing wrong
Good God, heed not my tears
I bear him no grudge
May his joy be as great as my unhappiness
This is the last prayer from a dying heart
My ring, my ring
He took it from me, but he cannot take away his image
It is engraved here in my heart
Oh flower, token of tender love are you taken from me
I kiss you again and again but you are withered
Who thought to see you languish
And wither so quickly, oh flower
Like passion that has its hour
And one day
Only but one day will remain
And will one day only, ah one remain
Like passion that has its hour.
And one day,
One day it will remain
I may restore this flower
By tears, tears of bitter anguish
But to revive love's power
These tears of mine are all shed in vain
Who thought to see thee,
Who thought to see thee
Like love that has its hour, has its hour
One day alone remain,
One day alone remain
Like passion that has an hour
Ah yes, an hour.

Theme from A Summer Place was recorded as an instrumental for a 1959 film A Summer Place. The song was a number one hit for nine weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1960.
Composed by Giachino Rossini (1792–1868), the greatest Italian composer of his time.
This opera depicts the story of Switzerland's legendary founding fathers and a courageous 13th century folk hero, Wilhelm Tell, who symbolized the struggle for political and individual freedom. According to legend, Tell was forced to shoot an apple from his son's head after refusing to pay homage to a Hapsburg liege. His courage and famed marksmanship launched an uprising that brought the Swiss independence from the Hapsburg dynasty.
This recording is part of a music article performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of Rome's Academia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. It was conducted by the world's leading opera conductor Sir Antonio Pappano, who is also the Music Director of the Royal Opera House. It features Canadian baritone Gerald Finley, American tenor John Osborn and sopranos Malin Byström and Marie-Nicole Lemieux.
